You Be The Judge...

Salvation is not based upon keeping the letter of the Bible. That would be legalism. But when one is in a saving relationship with Jesus, then one is motivated to believe as Jesus wants us to believe; we will want to keep the letter of the Bible; we will want to seek the truth in ALL matters; and that is the purpose here. What is the truth in ALL matters? Each topic is on trial as revealed by God's love. The evidence is provided for you to judge for yourself. As any judge that sits on a bench weighing the evidence is to be neutral, so we call you to do the same. Let no prejudice cloud your judgment. And let no preconceived beliefs to interfere with what the Bible really teaches. And if there be a denomination that believes these precepts, so be it. If not, so be it as well. But personal reform is the call for each one of us as we all are judged individually and cannot tell God, "My pastor taught it this way", "My church guided me this way", "My parents raised me this way", etc. It's up to us to know it for ourselves.

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets :I am come not come to destroy but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of the least commandments, and teach men so, shall be least in the kingdom of heaven :but whosoever shall do and teach them, The same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. John 1:17 For the law was given by Moses, [but] grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

POINT:
|
Moses represents the Ten Commandments and is the period of time before Jesus. We live in the time after Jesus, who brought in truth and especially grace. So we are now under grace and no longer needing to keep the Ten Commandments.

COUNTER POINT:

Moses represents the law regarding feasts days that pointed to Jesus but now that Jesus has come, we are under grace and need not sacrifice animals anymore.

COUNTER POINT:
|
The verse, read quickly, appears to be stating that Moses gave the commandments and so they are his and Jesus gave grace and that is His. But read a bit more carefully, both Moses and Jesus were instruments. True, Jesus was more than an instrument being the Son of God, but still, grace was revealed by Him. To say that the law was given by Moses is better understood as the Bible teaches. God wrote it with His finger (Exodus 31:18). So God, not Moses, gave the commandments. They were given from God by the use of Moses. Likewise, Jesus was used to reveal God’s intention (Romans 1:17). But the law existed before Moses (Genesis 26:5) and grace existed before Jesus (Exodus 34:9). In fact, it is under Moses that the Bible definition of grace is spelled out plainly. The law simply became physically revealed through Moses and grace physically was revealed at the cross. So this verse does not cease the law and begin grace but simply states who showed each physically while God is the source of both and both existed before the world began (2 Timothy 1:9).

Romans 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

POINT:
|
It does not matter if we do the law or not. We are justified for heaven.

COUNTER POINT:
|
Justification is without doing anything because it is about what has been done in the past. We are justified as if we did not commit the sin. However, for salvation there is another part called sanctification or holy living in which we need to do the law, not to be saved, but because we are saved. Jesus asked us to keep the commandments (John 14:15).

Matthew 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

|
POINT:
|
The commandments don’t only exist but Jesus made them more spiritually intense in that not only are we to physically keep them but even mentally. If we break a commandment in our head but not physically, we could still end up in hell. That’s what Jesus just said.
